Keep your tummy happily healthy with Casper & Gambini’s
Let’s admit it, we all love food, but we love it even more when some creativity is evident. We had heard some rumors about the great food that was available at Casper and Gambini’s in Cairo festival City, so we decided to pop in and give it a try.
In the same way that Tom Cruise had Renee Zellweger at ‘Hello’ in the movie ‘Jerry Maguire’, Casper and Gambini’s had us at Hello. After the Hello’s and welcome, they asked us where we would like to sit and tried to find us the perfect spot. Once we were comfortably seated the menus appeared. We made our order and whilst it was being prepared, we were served with complimentary bread sticks, heavenly-tasting feta cheese and condiments.
One of the things we liked about Casper and Gambini’s was that they were happy to tailor our order, so whether you want more dressing or less dressing on your salad or something more custom made, then they were more than happy to oblige.
When we have managed to munch our way through the complimentary food, we assumed we would have the inevitable lag before the main order arrived; this was not the case. As one waiter cleared the table a second started to appear with our order. Now that is what I call service.
We ordered a range of healthy Salads, which varied in price from 43 – 55 LE. On the face of it, it may have seemed a bit pricey for a salad. However, the price in this case clearly said, you get what you pay for; we got great quality, huge portions and a work of art on a plate.
One of the salads we tried was Santa-Fe Chicken (Mango-chicken, guacamole, tomato salsa, red beans, iceberg lettuce, mozzarella, tortilla crisps and citrus dressing) The mixture of mango chicken with salsa sauce, tortilla and the leafy greens with the sweet but sharp citrus dressing certainly fell into the category of a new taste sensation.
The second salad that we tried (this was our favorite), was the Japanese Salad (Teriyaki chicken, noodles, vegetables, herbs, chili, peanuts, lime soya dressing and sesame.) This Salad clearly used gourmet ingredients, which complemented each other. We chose teriyaki chicken, which made perfect sense with the other ingredients but you can also add shrimp.
The last one was Slim-Line Chicken (Chicken breast, light mozzarella, fresh lettuce, tomato, carrot, cucumber, sweet corn and homemade croutons.) The plate looked and tasted, just perfect! Actually made healthy eating, feel pleasurable.
As we move into the ever warming summer months in Egypt, it is not possible to have a meal without wanting something that will refresh and cool us down. So onto the healthy coolers and fresh juices (18 – 25 LE), we were definitely spoilt for choice, with the large number of possibilities. We liked the sound of a cooler named Pomegranate Mojito, so tried this one. It was served to us in a beautiful glass jar, with pieces of mint and lemon – all I can say is wow! The other drink we tried was Peach ice tea, this was iced to our liking and came in its own mixer. There was definitely enough there for several glasses. It tasted great but we did find it had a bit of an artificial aftertaste.
Our only recommendation to Casper and Gambini’s would be to consider having some quiet, ambient background music, to create a more relaxed atmosphere. Apart from this minor recommendation we would give Casper and Gambini’s a definite thumbs up; for the excellent food, the attentiveness of the staff and desire to please, all achieved on a very busy weekend day.
