Being bullied is a thing that almost all of us have been through, you can get bullied at work, the gym or even while driving. Bullying among children however is different, it forms who they are and their perspective on life. It can also lead to having an aggressive behavior at a very young.
Here are five things to teach your child to ensure that they never have to suffer from bullying.
1. Act brave, walk away, and ignore the bully
That is the first thing you should teach your kid is to have the courage to act strong in front of bullies, bullies find it amusing when their victim fears them, it is what feeds their ego. Teach them to ignore the bully, eventually the bully will give up.
2. Don’t bully back
Don’t hit, kick, or push back to deal with someone bullying you or your friends. Fighting back just satisfies a bully and it’s dangerous, too, because someone could get hurt. You’re also likely to get in trouble. It’s best to stay with others, stay safe, and get help from an adult.
3. Tell an adult.
If you are being bullied, it’s very important to tell an adult. Teach them to tell someone they trust and talk about what is happening. Teachers, principals, parents, and lunchroom helpers at school can all help to stop bullying. Sometimes bullies stop as soon as a teacher finds out because they’re afraid that they will be punished by parents.
4. The Buddy System
Two is better than one if you’re trying to avoid being bullied. Make a plan to walk with a friend or two on the way to school, recess, lunch, or wherever you think you might meet the bully. Offer to do the same if a friend is having bully trouble.
5. Be Confident
Bullying is something that derives them from their confidence, if they cannot believe in themselves nor have the confidence that they are smart and good enough, then anything will shake their self-esteem which is why teaching them to be confident is one of the main things that will help them.
