Italian in heritage, this yeast, flat bread is perfect as a side for soup and salad or served as the carb of choice for sandwiches. Focaccia is a flavorful Italian bread, recently launched in Egypt by RichBake .It is filled with the flavor of olive oil and fresh thyme and rosemary, soft and sturdy and dimpled all around. “To give the bread its signature dimpled appearance, little indentations are formed all over the dough, which hold tiny pools of olive oil that soak into the bread as it bakes” – according to OnceUponaChef .
There’s not just one way to make a Focaccia sandwich. It can be topped with vegetables or your choice of protein and bake it, for an open-face baked sandwich or pizza. It can be topped after baking, or sliced and served cold as a sandwich bread. Here are some ideas to serve it and indulge
1- Dip it!
Have it with fresh basil, sliced cherry tomatoes and drizzled of balsamic vinegar.
2- Grilled Veggies Sandwich
Make a marinade of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a little Italian seasoning. Add sliced eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, and red onions. Marinate for at least 1 hour. Then grill all the veggies. Butter and grill your bread, add a couple slices of your favorite cheese and enjoy.
3- Pizza Inspired Open-Face Sandwich
With pizza as your inspiration for open-faced sandwiches. It is very similar to making pizza: you put your chosen toppings on the bread. Choose from pesto, mozzarella cheese, rich Italian tomato paste, grilled veggies, garlic, cooked minced and layer it in carefully. Bake for 10-15 minutes on 250 C and serve it hot.
4- Open-Face Mushroom and Swiss
Place sauted mushrooms on top of a thick slice of Focaccia. Top with Swiss or any melting cheese of your choice. Bake for 10-15 minutes on 250 C and serve it hot.
Use sliced Focaccia and lightly butter it, place scrambled eggs, cheese and any other fillings of your choice. Enjoy it as-is, or bake it for 10-15 minutes on 250 C.
